Computer Maxim 1 and the McAfee Meltdown

I have 10 Computer Maxims to which my clients adhere. At least I hope they adhere to them! Computer Maxim One is:

Life is too short to install “hot, new” software upgrades.

If the program isn't broken, don't go crazy with the fixes. I never expected this maxim to include an essential upgrade like a virus scanner. Yet, somehow McAfee managed to create a virus scanner update worse than a virus. It was only available for a brief time, but enough people lost valuable information for this to be a serious matter.

I no longer recommend McAfee, although I did for many, many years. I strongly encouraged clients away from Norton/Symantec products. Want a good virus scanner? Try AVG by Grisoft. Good stuff.
